On July 18th, 2016 at 6PM the Barbados ICT Professionals’ Association (BIPA), held its Annual General Meeting at the 3Ws Oval, University of the West Indies, Cave Hill, St. Michael. The purpose of this event was to recap on the work and achievements of the board for the past year as well as nominate and vote for members to contest for positions on the new board for the upcoming year.
The evening started off with a warm welcome to the audience and words of prayer from Past BIPA President, Mr. Andre Griffith. This was followed by the recap of the minutes of the 2015 BIPA AGM as the audience followed along. Mr. Roger Callendar (BIPA Treasurer – 2014/2015) discussed the explained the financial report for the year July 2015 to July 2016.
Following Mr. Callendar’s report, it was highlighted that there was only one (1) student member who had joined BIPA for the past year and this was signaled as a cause for concern.

The reins were handed over to 2015/2016 BIPA President, Mr. Philip Lewis, who delivered his President’s Report. During his report, Mr. Lewis highlighted some of the major achievements of the Board over the past year. These included a number of Government partnership projects including working with the Telecoms Unit.

BIPA also assisted with a number of initiatives including working with the Fair Trading Commission (FTC) to give our opinion and views preceding the finialisation of the Cable & Wireless and Columbus Communications merger.
Throughout the course of the year BIPA also took part in social & corporate awareness programmes and events including:
- Appearing on CBC’s “The People’s Business” where President, Mr. Philip Lewis spoke about ICT and entrepreneurship in Barbados.
- Participating in the ITU’s “Girls in ICT Day” awareness event. As part of our participation, BIPA hosted a panel discussion with four (4) women currently working within the ICT sector. For more information on this event please visit http://barbadosict.org/2016/04/women-in-ict/
- Hosting, organising and facilitating the BIPA/ BCC and BIPA/ UWI/ IDB – Internship Programme.

- Participating and volunteering in the BSCI PitchIT Caribbean Challenge
Following the report, there was short break before the protocols of the election process were stated and discussed by representatives of the BCSI (Barbados Coalition of Service Industries).
After this announcement, the election process began and nominations for the vacant posts were heard.
Mr. Philip Lewis regained his position as President of BIPA for a 2nd term.
Miss Margaret Leon was voted as the new Vice President.
Miss Cheldeane Miller also regained her position as Secretary for yet another year.
The position of Treasurer changed hands as Mr. Andre Griffith was elected as the new Treasurer for the upcoming year.
Mr. Larry Mayers regained his position as Membership Officer to serve for a 2nd term.
Finally, the positions of board members/ floor members were subsequently filled by Miss Heather Barker, Mr. Mahesh Bhajan, Miss Shireen Flann and Mr. Edwin Workman.
As such, the NEW BIPA Executive is as follows:
