WHAT IS A REMOTE HUB?

Hubs are local meetings that take place in parallel with the live events occurring elsewhere.

Hubs allow people to watch the webcast of selected sessions together and send questions (via text, audio or video) that will be answered by panellists in the live meeting.

Additionally, hub organizers can hold debates to discuss, from a local perspective, the themes introduced at the remote meeting.

WHY A REMOTE HUB?

  • An interactive remote hub allows local participants to interact with the live meeting in real-time. In this manner, it is a true extension of the live meeting. Individuals remotely connected can at best submit messages and hope that they are answered.
  • It helps to raise awareness about Internet Governance issues.
  • It fosters networking among participants and community building.
  • It encourages follow-up activities.
  • Everyday interruptions challenge the discipline required to participate in multi-hour meetings from the home or office environment. In encouraging focused participation, a dedicated remote hub is the next best thing to physically attending the meeting.
